What is Conversion Rate Optimization?

Wikipedia has given a great definition of what CRO is;

“In internet marketing, conversion optimization, or conversion rate optimization (CRO) is a system of increasing the percentage of visitors to a website that convert into customers, or more generally, take any desired action on a web-page.”

Brian Massey of conversionsciences.com had this to say;

CRO is the process of making changes to a website and measuring how these changes increase or decrease the conversion rate.

CRO attempts to improve each and every aspect that affects the rate of conversion on a site by either increasing value or reducing the associated costs (like ad spend)

How do we accomplish this?

We use data to understand how changes to a website affect the behavior of visitors and measure conversions.

There are 3 roles of a CRO as a scientist

  • Asking good questions.
  • Increasing Sample Size
  • Increasing the Sample Quality
